Did you guys have fun watching the Super Bowl yesterday? I’ll admit it wasn’t QUITE the Super Bowl competition that I was expecting. But it was still a good game. And I loved the Halftime show and of course the commercials!
What’s really exciting to me though, is that the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have teamed up with the NFL to create 50 bespoke designer footballs. I’ve listed some of my favorite ones below along with some information about each design. The footballs will be up for auction until February 14th and all proceeds go to the NFL Foundation. I love how creative they all are! Like turning a football into a big piece of candy? Such an awesome idea! Which football is your favorite?
Favorite Football Team: Whatever team my husband is cheering for!
Design Inspiration: Our classic Staceface artwork
Design Materials: Swarovski Crystals
Production Time: 1 month
Favorite Football Team: The New England Patriots. I love Tom Brady!
Design Inspiration: The inspiration is from my love for football and my greater love of cheerleading. I have loved both since I was head cheerleader for Syracuse University
Design Materials: Over a thousand gold rosettes, gold, red, and black paint, vintage mannequin hands, name plate, and wood for the base
Production Time: It took almost 30 hours to make the football!
Favorite Football Team: New Orleans Saints
Design Inspiration: Victory is Sweet.
Design Materials: Cellophane and enamel
Production Time: A few weeks
Favorite Football Team: New York Giants
Design Inspiration: A football left overnight in the end zone decided to bloom!
Design Materials: Golden football with hand-cut multicolored leather flowers covering the surface. At the center of each of the flowers are the past 49 Super Bowl logos.
Production Time: 2 weeks
Favorite Football Team: Patriots
Design Inspiration: I thought it would be fun to put a feminine twist on a typically masculine item. I wanted to keep the football somewhat authentic, so I decided to custom dye leather to the perfect shade of pink and reconstruct the ball. As a jewelry designer, I wanted to include lots of gold and silver tones. The NFL logo includes stars and since I have many star motifs in my line, I thought they would make the perfect accent and add a little luck.
Design Materials: Custom dyed pink leather. Gold plated hardware.
Production Time: Four weeks, from design approval until the deadline.
Favorite Football Team: NY Jets of course! Stick with the home team!
Design Inspiration: Mexican Day of the Dead
Design Materials: Hand Painted with Acrylic Paint, Silk Flowers, Metal Studs
Production Time: A couple weeks, working on it a little bit everyday.
Favorite Football Team: It depends whether I’m with my nephew, my dad or my husband.
Design Inspiration: I love anything gold that sparkles. Need I say more? It’s everything I love!
Design Materials: Swarovski Crystals (type 2058 and 2088 (flat back)) in Light Colorado Topaz, Crystal and Jet
Production Time: It took about 1 1/2 months.
Favorite Football Team: The LA Rams (before they went to St. Louis). I was just starting out my career when they made it to the Super Bowl in 1979. I remember there being a lot of buzz and excitement.
Design Inspiration: The football pays homage to Tadashi’s heritage and is a celebration of Japan in the springtime.
Design Materials: Embroidered tulle, glass beads, grommets, leather laces, vinyl.
Production Time: 28 days
Favorite Football Team: Miami Dolphins
Design Inspiration: I wanted it to look like a piece of jewelry, outrageously oversized and over the top!
Design Materials: Precious and semi-precious stones
Production Time: HOURS! I attached each stone myself by hand so it was a labor of love!
Favorite Football Team: New York Jets
Design Inspiration: Vince Lombardi
Design Materials: Illesteva glasses, Trench Coat and a fedora
Production Time: 2 weeks
