When Fashion Meets Football: NFL Auctions Off CFDA Designer Footballs

Did you guys have fun watching the Super Bowl yesterday? I’ll admit it wasn’t QUITE the Super Bowl competition that I was expecting. But it was still a good game. And I loved the Halftime show and of course the commercials!

What’s really exciting to me though, is that the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have teamed up with the NFL to create 50 bespoke designer footballs. I’ve listed some of my favorite ones below along with some information about each design. The footballs will be up for auction until February 14th and all proceeds go to the NFL Foundation. I love how creative they all are! Like turning a football into a big piece of candy? Such an awesome idea! Which football is your favorite?

Favorite Football Team: Patriots

Design Inspiration: I thought it would be fun to put a feminine twist on a typically masculine item. I wanted to keep the football somewhat authentic, so I decided to custom dye leather to the perfect shade of pink and reconstruct the ball. As a jewelry designer, I wanted to include lots of gold and silver tones. The NFL logo includes stars and since I have many star motifs in my line, I thought they would make the perfect accent and add a little luck.

Design Materials: Custom dyed pink leather. Gold plated hardware.

Production Time: Four weeks, from design approval until the deadline.
