It’s very interesting to me how skulls are generally used as “spooky” Halloween decorations. But with the celebration of the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), they’re not intended to be scary at all. They’re always brightly colored and a very whimsical decoration for the holiday. Sugar Skulls. I love that. And while I don’t agree with everything that the Day of the Dead stands for, I do agree with the importance of remembering those who have passed.
Since I did a review on the Book of Life last week, I thought it was only fitting to dress the part. I had this dress that I purchased around this time last year. And the accessories I actually found at a costume store. It seems like dressing up in Sugar Skulls has become very popular. Or maybe I’m just now noticing? I chose not to go all out with a Sugar Skull mask or anything. I like to keep things simple. And this is an outfit I love because I can wear it to a celebration or to the bookstore (which I actually did) without feeling like I’m wearing a “costume.”
Hope everyone is having a lovely Friday!
