The Mermaid Tourist

Today I want to share a little of our South Padre Island vacation with you guys. Jeremy always complains that I’m a little “too touristy” when we go on vacations. But I can’t help myself! I always bring my camera and I want to see all those crazy tourist things they’ve set up. I usually end up apologizing to him. He’ll say “OK, I’ll take the camera” and then he’ll start snapping away for me. I think he secretly likes it all too.
mermaidtour2I immediately fell in love with this mermaid figurehead when I saw her. So I knew I had to get some pictures of her. She’s the face of a local gym and clearly ready to GET FIT in her sports bra and sweatbands.
mermaidtour4The first place we stopped at when we arrived in South Padre was this awesome little shop called Unique Fashion. They had some of the prettiest dresses that I’ve ever seen. I fell in love with this cute pink dress and the lady gave us a discount because of a tiny mark on it. Did I mention that I love shopping small? Always such amazing customer service. If you’re ever in South Padre, I would definitely recommend stopping by this store. It’s a nice change of pace from all the touristy t-shirt shops.
mermaidtour1mermaidtour3Not that I don’t love those shops as well! I picked up my hat and my shark’s tooth necklace (a pink one!) from one of those souvenir shops. They do have a lot of fun stuff and it’s a big part of the whole vacation experience. Last time we were in South Padre, Jeremy and I bought shark’s tooth necklaces. That’s kind of been our “thing” together. So I knew we would buy new ones this vacation, but I was so happy to see that they’re making them more colorful now.mermaidtour5We also spent some time just looking at all the unique houses on the island. I just can’t get over how beautiful these homes are. I absolutely love the colors.
